Award-winning Museum which interprets the story of Irish Revolutionary Leader Michael Collins, Owned by The Crowley family Relatives Of General Collins
At the Michael Collins Centre Museum, located on Castleview Hill outside of Clonakilty, the incredible story of Michael Collins is brought to life for visitors. Visitors are transported back in time and leave with a deep appreciation for Irish history and in particular the revolutionary period – 1916 to 1923. The Museum houses one of the top collections of artefacts in Ireland from the War of Independence and Civil War era, many of the items being directly connected to Michael Collins. The two outdoor exhibits explore the sad history of firing squad executions and the Béal na Blá ambush site where Michael Collins died, this is brought to life in a full- size reconstruction, with life size replica military vehicles.
Dolores and Tim Crowley run the award-winning museum with a genuine passion to share stories of days gone by of their ancestors including Crowley’s Grandfather, Tim who was interned with Michael Collins in 1916 in Wales and in 1923 he married Elizabeth Slyne, cousin of Michael Collins. Three grandaunts Mary Ellen and Margaret Crowley were also active in the Cumann na mBan, the women’s section of the IRA. These personal Family Historical connections ensure a unique experience in the Museum
